Adrian van Hooydonk, from the BMW Group, will focus his talk on the future of cars, discussing the tension field – or is it a tension field? – between progress in car-design and progress in car-technology. Considering restrictions due to environmental concerns, and new possibilities, such as self-driving cars, how much room is there for emphasis on design? Germany can be regarded the home of the modern car, yet, the greatest innovations in mobility occur in the Silicon Valley; so what is the future of car production in Germany? Another question to be addressed in this panel talk is whether future limitations to mobility will be due to technological reasons, or more due to ethic/legal considerations. Moreover, if one considers cars to be a reflection of the society they are part of, can be observe variance across regions? Adrian van Hooydonk will be in conversation with Yana Peel, who has held various advisory positions across the arts, thus adding a design-perspective to the panel.
