Bernd Radig is Professor of Informatics and member of the Emeriti of Excellence-group of the Technische Universität München (TUM). His current activities are in real-time image sequence understanding for applications in robotics, sports, driver assistance systems, and online analysis of human facial expressions to classify emotions. He was co-founder, principal researcher and member of the executive board of the Cluster of Excellence "Cognition for Technical Systems (CoTeSys)". 1988 he created and directed the Bavarian Research Centre for Knowledge Based Systems, an institute of three universities, with focus on the technology transfer of Artificial Intelligence to commercial applications, cooperating in many projects with about 100 Bavarian and international companies. The idea of tight cooperation between fundamental research and Bavarian industry was developed further by the constitution of Bavarian Research Cooperations. 1993 he founded and headed the Association of Bavarian Research Cooperations, where up to 400 scientists do research in advanced technologies. He holds the German Order of Merit and the award "Pro Meritis Scientiae et Litterarum" of the State of Bavaria.
