Jens Spahn, born 16th May 1980 in Ahaus/North Rhine-Westphalia, is a German politician, member of the German Bundestag and the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). After graduating from Episcopal Canisius School in Ahaus in 1999, Spahn completed an apprenticeship at Westdeutsche Landesbank and then earned a B.A. degree in Political Science and Law.


During his long-standing political career, joining the CDU youth organization “Junge Union” aged 15 and becoming a member of the CDU in 1997, Spahn has served in manifold influential positions on a federal, state and municipal level. In 2002, he was the youngest candidate being elected into the German parliament at the age of 22. He has since then served in the 15th, 16th and 17th Bundestag. From 2005-2009 Spahn chaired the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Committee of Health and became the party parliamentary group’s speaker for health politics in the German Bundestag. In 2012 Spahn became a member of the federal CDU Executive Board. Since 2014, he is a member of the CDU Executive Committee and a member of the party’s Committee of Health. In 2015, he became Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance, where he supervises the German government’s annual budget.
