Julia Leeb is a photojournalist. e emphasis of her work is on areas in political upheaval. She has done long-term projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Sudan, and Iran. Her pictures from war torn countries have been published worldwide, with her footage from Libya caused a stir when her team where bombarded by Gadda ’s troops.
Julia Leeb studied international relations and diplomacy in Madrid. After graduation, she was drawn to the Italian foreign ministry in Rome. After further attending a university in Alexandria, Egypt, she came back to Germany, where she pursued an education at the media academy BAF. Since then, she has worked as a photojournalist and lmmaker. Her book “North Korea – Anonymous Country“ was covered by press all around the world. It was reviewed by the Leonard Lopate Show, the National Public Radio and was nominated for the German Photo Book Award.
Leeb produces Virtual Reality and 360 degree content about Transnistria, Congo (DRC), the Nuba Mountains (Sudan), Uganda and others. She strongly believes that this technology will fundamentally change journalism as we know it today. When not bound by contract, she spends time working on her own projects which have led her to over 80 different countries.
Elle Magazine listed Julia Leeb within the 80 international characters and Refinery29 named her under the 29th most inspiring women in Germany
