Nora Abousteit is serial entrepreneur who has founded two million-plus-user crafting communities. She is currently founder and CEO of CraftJam Inc., a company pioneering the “social-crafting” business. At CraftJam’s “sewing circles for the 21st century” 21-39 year olds gather to connect to friends, create new projects and learn craft skills. The business has been featured in The New York Times, New York Magazine, TimeOutNY, and on NBC and was a launch partner for the Airbnb Experience Program. An experienced craft entrepreneur, Nora was founder of BurdaStyle, which she grew into the world’s largest online sewing community. From 2012-2016 she built and operated Kollabora and the Kollaborator Advertising Network, which was funded by Khosla Ventures, Allen & Co, Burda/DLD Ventures, 500 Startups and others. She is a two-term board member of the craft industry Association for Creative Industries and The Door. Nora grew up in Germany and holds a degree in Middle East Studies, Political Science and Philosophy from the American University in Cairo, Egypt. She speaks German, Arabic and English. She lives in New York City with her husband and daughter.
