Roby brings two decades of uniquely broad experience in innovation, and has created hundreds of products, services, strategies, roadmaps and cultural transformations for clients such as Apple, BMW, Lufthansa, Nestle, P&G, or Siemens. He runs strategy for the world’s largest mining innovation consortium ATIC with over 100 partner companies. He created roadmaps for most global mining houses totaling a market cap of $ 300 bn.

He is Partner at VCI, offering a unique combination of bottom up design thinking innovation and top down business strategy. He was VP of Product Development and Design at Nanosolar, with $0.5 bn the best funded startup of its time with 300 patents around printed solar cells.

As part of IDEO’s global executive team, he was part of the small group that developed Design Thinking. He was founder and CEO of IDEO Germany, and co-founded IDEO's transformation practice, teaching organizations how to change themselves.

Roby has taught at Stanford for 4 years, Carnegie Mellon, TU Munich and others. He advises startups and VCs, holds advanced degrees in Mech. Eng. & Aerospace (TU Munich) and Product Design (Stanford), and has numerous patents in various industries.

He lived in Silicon Valley for 20 years, and commutes between Germany and South Africa.
