Stefanie Babst is Acting NATO Assistant Secretary for Public Diplomacy. She finished her M.A. in Political Science, International Law and Russian Studies at Christian-Albrechts-University, Kiel in December 1991 and her Ph.D. in Political Science at Christian-Albrechts-University, Kiel and Harvard University, Cambridge in December 1993. From 1993 until 1998 Stefanie was a Lecturer of Russian and East European Studies at the Federal Armed Forces Command & General Staff College, Hamburg and started working for the NATO in Brussels in 1998 as the German Information Officer at the Office of Information & Press, International Staff. She has held different positions at the NATO until she was promoted to her current position in August 2010. Stefanie is a Member of Women in International Security Studies and has published numerous articles on international security policy and aspects of the Russian transformation process. In 2004 the Latvian President awarded Stefanie with the l’ Ordre de Chevalier in recognition of her dedicated work for the NATO Summit in Riga, Lativa. She was also awarded by the Danish Defense Minister with the “Communications Prize 2010” for her achievements in advancing NATO’s communications, in October 2010.
