Uri Tzaig was appointed to head the Textile Design Department at the Shenkar Design Faculty. Tzaig is replacing Tali Lachover, who formerly headed the department. Tzaig an interdisciplinary artist, has shown his work in exhibitions both in Israel and abroad - notably the Biennale in Venice, Documents X, Kassel (Germany), as well as in other exhibitions around Europe, Japan and the United States. In Israel, Tzaig’s work was featured in the Israel Museum, the Tel Aviv Museum and the Herzliya Museum. Upon his appointment, Tzaig stated: “Our unique academic outlook at Shenkar integrates the traditional, antique handiworks with advanced technological developments and current styles - enabling students to gain professional expertise and perception of style - in one of today’s most fascinated fields of design.” Uri Tzaig, born in Kiryat Gat in 1965, completed his studies at the “School of Visual Theater” in Jerusalem in 1992 and has been a lecturer at Shenkar’s Faculty of Design since 2005. Tzaig’s academic career includes teaching at the “San Francisco Art Institute” in California; at the Zurich University, “Hochschule fur Gestaltung und kuns Zurich” - Fine Arts Department; at the “School of Visual Theater” in Jerusalem; in the Photography Department of “Camera Obscura” and the New Media Department at Bezalel. In addition to managing the department at Shenkar, Uri Tzaig will continue teaching at Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. In 1995 he published his book, “Chazer Achorit” (Backyard). Throughout the years, Tzaig’s articles have been published in catalogues and prestigious international and Israeli art magazines.
