Gomma records was founded by Mathias "Munk" Modica and Jonas "Telonius" Imbery around 2000. The intention was to release their own music as well as music by young producers that didn't fit into the usual categories of club or indiemusic, but combined techniques and influences from unexpected terrains in order to create blueprints for new possible species of sound.

The label was recently defined "Germany's freshest and most interesting record label" by the British musicmagazine The NME. The label’s unique visual approach is reflected in their DIY video experiments, their DIN A 2 poster magazine, and several group exhibitions. (The so called "MondoGomma Shows" took place in Barcelona, Stockholm and Paris). Gomma's visual appearance gets curated by Mirko Borsche (Zeit) and Thomas Kartsolis (SZ Magazin).

By now, Gomma is an internationally established homebase for around 20 artists. Gomma gigs and shows are regularly taking place worldwide at festivals and clubs from Australia to Argentina, art happening like Art Basel or Frieze Art fair. Even very complex projects like the cooperation with New York's street art legend THE RAMMELLZEE or the ANTI NY compilation that introduced rare music from the 80ies New York underground art scene - including a never before released music piece by Jean Michel Basquiat.
