Ben Rooney interviews Markus Braun, CEO of Wirecard AG. They speak about the value added by mobile payment in general and then focus on new technologies including iBeacons which helps to fill the gap of GPS in localizing people within a closed room. With iBeacons, a store can precisely locate the customer and for instance, send him informations of a product he/she is just passing. This also opens the possibilities to dynamize the payment process. Customers could pay walking through the supermarket, instead of having one check out.
Rooney anyway wonders why customers should see a value in this technology and change their habits for getting messaged everytime they are passing a Starbucks. Braun thinks people will appreciate the technology mainly because it reduces check-out time by 25-30% at retail stores. In 5 years from now, we will make 80% of our payments mobile, Braun predicts.
