Alexander Görlach is an Affiliate Professor at Harvard University, where he serves at the College in the In Defense of Democracy-Program by the F.D.Roosevelt Foundation. Alex is further a Senior Fellow to the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs and a Fellow to the Center for Research in Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH) at the University of Cambridge, UK. His topics are narratives of identity, liberal democracy, politics and religion, secularism, pluralism and cosmopolitanism. He holds PhDs in linguistics and in comparative religion. Alex is the founder of the debate-magazine The European. Today he is the publisher of the online-initiative www.saveliberaldemocracy.com and an essayist and op-ed contributor to, amongst others, The New York Times and Neue Zürcher Zeitung. He is also a columnist to the German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche. In the academic year 2017-2018 Alex serves as a visiting scholar to both National Taiwan University and City University of Hong Kong, aiming to learn about the liberale democracies in Northeast Asia and how they deal with the challenges posed by China.
