Anne Niedermann

Company: IFD Allensbach
Fields of operation: Education, Other

Anne is a communications researcher who focuses on public opinion research and empirical social research methods. In 1991, she joined the research staff at Germany's oldest public opinion research company, the Institut für Demoskopie Allensbach, where she became director of Surveys for Legal Evidence in 1995. In this capacity, she designs surveys that are submitted in conjunction with legal proceedings—for example, in cases involving trade mark or unfair competition law— when certain legal assumptions need to be clarified based on facts. Working either as a court-appointed expert or on behalf of private clients, she has submitted expert opinions based on survey results in about 400 legal cases to date, both in Germany and throughout Europe. In addition, she also conducts survey-based research on issues pertaining to legal sociology or legal policy.

She has lectured at the University of Constance, served as Chair of Professional Standards for the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR), along with publishing numerous articles on legal evidence research. Since 2005, she has chaired the complaints council of the 'Rat der Deutschen Markt- und Sozialforschung' (arbitration board established jointly by four major German market, opinion and social research associations in order to monitor and enforce professional rules and research standards, thus ensuring quality in survey research). In 2018, she received the "Award for special commitment to market research" from the Federal Association of German Market and Social Researchers e.V. (BVM).
