Christoph Schlingensief was a film director, theatre and opera director, author and performance artist. At the age of 49 he passed away in Berlin, August 21, 2010. Theatre: 1993: in-house director of the Volksbühne Berlin ("100 Years of CDU", "Rocky Dutschke '68", "Battle for Europe", "Atta Atta", "Kaprow City" a.o.) 2005: in-house director of the Burgtheater Vienna ("Bambiland" by Nobel laureate Elfriede Jelinek, "Mea Culpa", a.o.) In his projects, Schlingensief repeatedly worked with outsiders and the rejected of society, dealt relentlessly with the topic of fascism, and often responded immediately to political events. Politics: In 1998, Schlingensief founded a political party called "Chance 2000" that participated in the electoral campaign for the German Bundestag. In 2002, his performance art project "Foreigners Out!" spurred Austria into uproar and attracted great international attention. From 1998 on, Schlingensief also appeared on TV with several of his own formats such as "Talk 2000" or "U 3000". Opera: After being invited by the Wagner family, Schlingensief staged "Parsifal" in Richard Wagner's Bayreuth from 2004 to 2008.
A year later, he staged "The Flying Dutchman" in Manaus, Amazonas. Films: he made his most important films, the "Germany Trilogy", consisting of "100 Years Adolf Hitler - the last hour in the Führerbunker", "The German Chainsaw Massacre - The First Hour of the Reunification" and "Terror 2000 - Germany out of Control" with Udo Kier, Helmut Berger and Fassbinder actors Margit Carstensen, Volker Spengler and Irm Hermann, a.o. In 2009 he was a member of the jury of the Berlin Film Festival. He is Professor of "Kunst in Aktion" (Performance Art) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Braunschweig. Exhibitions: Zurich, Sao Paulo, New York, Berlin, Documenta Kassel, Munich, London, Paris, the Venice Biennale, Hauser & Wirth Gallery, a.o. Awards: London Prix Futura, Prix Europa, Filmpreis der Hofer Filmtage, Hein-Heckroth-Bühnenbildpreis, Helmut Käutner Award, a.o. In 2009, he became Honorary Member of the Art Director's Club, Germany Present: Construction works on Schlingensief's ambitious "gesamtkunstwerk", the world's first "Opera Village" (REMDOOGO - Festspielhaus Afrika) start in February 2010 in Burkina Faso, Africa.
