Deborah Ball is Rome-based bureau chief for Italy at the Wall Street Journal. A native of Boston and a graduate of Columbia University, she has been with the paper for more than 15 years, covering a wide variety of business, finance and political topics in Milan, London and Zurich. She has covered the European consumer goods sector, the Swiss corporate and financial world, and Italian politics and business. Between 1999 and 2002, she also covered the European luxury goods sector for the Journal, and is the author of “House of Versace,” published by Random House in 2010. “House of Versace,” which was made into a Lifetime movie in 2013, tells the story Gianni Versace and the house he founded, including his murder and the struggle of his sister Donatella to keep the maison afloat after her brother’s death.
