Prof. Haim D. Rabinowitch, a faculty member at the Faculty of Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Envnment; served the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as elected Head of Department, elected Chair of the Faculty research Committee; elected Dean of the Faculty, and an elected University rector (provost). Prof. Rabinowitch chaired the scientific committee of the Israeli National Gene Bank for 6 years, and has been instrumental in the development of agricultural scientific ties between Israel and a number of developing countries. Specializing in vegetable physiology & genetics, and PI of numerous research projects in Israel and abroad; lecturer at the Hebrew University and in academic institutions worldwide, supervisor of more than 70 grad students; edited five books and published over 140 research reports in leading scientific journals. Co inventor of ca 10 international patents on molecular biology; floral physiology; seed and postharvest technologies. Prof. Rabinowitch won the Mashov Prize for his contribution to Israeli agriculture; awarded twice the University's Kaye Prize for Innovations and Inventions; recipient of the American Society for Horticultural Science National Food Processing Association Award in raw products research; Recipient of the Kanat award; awarded the prestigious Rothschild Prize for achievements in science, and granted an honorary doctorate from Lion 3 University, Lion, France.
