Íñigo de la Serna
Íñigo de la Serna Hernáiz was born on 10 January 1971. He got a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Cantabria, specialized in Hydraulics, Oceanography and Environment. He was elected Mayor of the city of Santander in 2007, being Popular Party’s candidate, and re-elected in municipal elections in 2011 and 2015. Íñigo de la Serna Hernáiz had worked in private industry as head of the hydraulics department at the engineering company APIA XXI, from 1995 to 1999 and was later appointed as director of the office of Cantabria’s regional Minister of Environment, from 1999 to 2003. He has been Santander’s city councillor of Environment, Water and Beaches during the term in office 2003-2007, regional deputy during his first term in office as Santander’s Mayor, from 2007 to 2011, and he continues being regional deputy during current term in office 2015-2019. Additionally he's a member of the Executive Committee of Cantabria region‘s Popular Party. Currently, he is president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP). He also presides over the Spanish Smart Cities Network and is currently co-president of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) of which he will be president from December on, and he is member of the Network Global Agenda Councils and the Regional Committee of the World Economic Forum.
