Joe Lubin is one of the co-founders of Ethereum, the second largest cryptocurrency based on market value. He is also the founder of the blockchain software technology company, ConsenSys.
Born in Toronto, a graduate of Princeton; Joe was previously involved in the software business as a research scientist at Vision Applications. He then ventured into finance and worked as VP Technology for the private wealth management division of Goldman Sachs.
His interest in blockchain started when he read the paper on Bitcoin by Satoshi Nakamoto. In 2013, Vitalik Buterin proposed the idea of Ethereum, a more expressive and powerful blockchain system. This white paper caught Lubin’s attention and in 2014, Lubin became one of the co-founders of Ethereum. Later that year, Lubin founded ConsenSys, a decentralized blockchain production studio. Now in 29 countries with over 1000 employees, Consensys develops software mainly for the Ethereum blockchain. It also provides decentralized software services to companies and undertakes enterprise and government consulting. The European Union has picked ConsenSys as one of the primary companies to spread blockchain across Europe. ConsenSys is currently working with the EU in creating a blockchain observatory and forum for this purpose.
Consensys currently supports more than 50 projects up and down the blockchain stack, from liquidity management to crypto custody to blockchain analytics, secure identity management platforms, payment systems, digital land registries, a commodity trading marketplace, and more. Joe Lubin can be considered one of the most influentials people in blockchain and has contributed to the spread of this technology to the world.
