Larry Ossei-Mensah is a Ghanaian-American curator and cultural critic who uses contemporary art and culture as a vehicle to redefine how we see ourselves and the world around us. He has organized exhibitions and projects with artists at commercial and nonprofit spaces around the globe from, including: Firelei Báez, Ruby Amanze, Hugo McCloud, Brendan Fernandes and Peter Williams. He has advocated for and written on some of the most dynamic visual artists working today: such as Derrick Adams, Mickalene Thomas, Kehinde Wiley, Lorna Simpson and street artist JR. In 2017, Ossei-Mensah was Critic-in Residence at ART OMI. Ossei-Mensah currently serves as the Susanne Feld Hilberry Senior Curator at MOCAD in Detroit. He also is a co-founder of the 501(c)(3) ARTNOIR in addition to being a mentor in the New Museum’s incubator program, NEW INC. He currently has a solo show of Allison Janae Hamilton’s work at MASS MoCA entitled PITCH that he co-curated with Susan Cross in addition to a group exhibition entitled Parallels and Peripheries on view this fall at the ArtCenter South Florida on Miami Beach.
