Marc Rotenberg is President and Executive Director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) in Washington, D.C an independent research organization, established in 1994. EPIC has pursued many important cases, including NSA surveillance authority, airport body scanners, drone regulations, the privacy of voter data, and data practices involving Facebook and Google. Marc also teaches at Georgetown Law and frequently testifies before Congress on emerging privacy issues. He has served on several national and international advisory panels. He is a founding board member and former Chair of the Public Interest Registry, which manages the .ORG domain. He is author of a leading textbook (with Anita Allen) "Privacy Law and Society" (West Academic 2016), and editor of "The Privacy Law Sourcebook" (EPIC 2018) and "Privacy in the Modern Age: The Search for Solutions" (The New Press 2015)). A new book will recount the history of the campaign against Facebook. He currently serves on expert panels for the Aspen Institute (AI), National Academies of Science (big data) and the OECD Directorate for Science, Technology, and Innovation (digital economy). He is a graduate of Harvard College and Stanford Law School, and received an LLM in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown Law. He is the recipient of several awards, including the World Technology Award in Law, the American Lawyer Award for Top Lawyers Under 45, the Norbert Weiner Award for Social and Professional Responsibility, and the Vicennial medal from Georgetown University for distinguished service. He was named one of the top lawyers in America by Lawdragon. Marc is also a tournament chess player and an offshore sailor.
