Michaela Nachtrab has been confronted with the topic of accessibility right from the start of her career. After her studies at the LMU Munich in 2000, she worked as a sign language interpreter, regional director and authorized representative. In 2008, she finished her MBA in General Management with a focus on Social Entrepreneurship in Munich and Wales. In 2009 she founded VerbaVoice. The company develops and provides technical solutions and mobile remote interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing people in order to provide full access to information and education. This includes sign language and text visualization as well as multilingual live-streaming for accessible conferences, political and social events. VerbaVoice has grown from a start-up to a company of almost 50 employees and 1.500 freelance interpreters working from all over the world in 40 languages. Michaela Nachtrab was elected as an Ashoka Fellow in 2011 for her commitment and her vision to change the world for deaf and hard of hearing people with the help of innovative technologies. The same year she received the Darboven Idee Foerderpreis – a prestigious prize for female entrepreneurs.
